Becoming aware of dangerous trends
Anyone who keeps up with what research—in every field—produces day after day can see that it often gives rise to troubling developments. Such is the case with what is now taking shape in the field of human reproduction.
The brief France 24 report entitled "The Race for 'Designer Babies' Has Begun" speaks volumes about the direction in which things are heading: a drift toward eugenics and the creation of genetically modified babies. Although it may be impossible for individuals to control these developments (for how could any one person do so?), we have a responsibility to remain aware of them, to keep abreast of new developments, and perhaps, in the medium to long term, to protect ourselves against their consequences.
