Since the Beginning...
Since the beginning, school has produced biological adults with childlike minds: people who do not think, but who, too frightened or too lazy to suspend their judgment in the face of authority's discourse, blindly repeat it. People who, too intellectually timid, do not dare to know.
The only way to remedy this intellectual timidity is to help children become adults capable of boldness, defiance, and intellectual daring. I would even be tempted to call it intellectual virility: that is, adults capable of giving free rein to the curiosity that lies deep within little girls and little boys alike; of giving free rein to this desire to know, the fruit of the thinking self, which is simply waiting to blossom in the child.
This desire to know is what makes a child ask "Why?" about every story they hear—whether it is a lesson, an explanation, a custom, or a law!
